Viña Real Gran Reserva Especial
Viña Real Gran Reserva is a wine from Rioja Alavesa made with grapes from our own vineyards located between 500 and 650 m altitude. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and aging in French and American oak barrels for 24 months, followed by 3 years in bottle. It has a garnet color, spicy and ripe fruit aromas, and a full, fleshy flavor with fresh acidity, ideal for a long evolution in the bottle.
Characteristics of the vineyard
Viña Real the wine has traditionally been made with grapes from Laguardia and Elciego, our own vineyards such as San Ginés and Castejones, to which in recent years we have added grapes from our own vineyards in Labastida.
All of them are small plots, located between 500 and 650 m altitude, mainly calcareous clay soils, although there are also sandy soils, goblet-trained, located on hillsides and facing south.
Winemaking characteristics
Wine made from high quality grapes harvested by hand in our best plots in Rioja-Alavesa. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts and controlled temperature between 28 ℃ and 30℃, with successive pumping over and "delestages" in order to achieve a good extraction of body and color intensity, as well as long macerations. Aging is carried out in new and single-use French and American oak barrels, where it remains for an average of 24 months, undergoing manual racking approximately every 4 months in the first year, with racking being spaced out in the second year. Before bottling, the wine is clarified to obtain greater clarity, silkiness and brightness. The wine in bottle acquires the necessary roundness for a minimum of 3 years. It will reach its greatest fullness many years later.
Harvest data
The 2015 vintage improves both quantitatively and qualitatively the results of the 2 previous vintages. After a vegetative cycle with very favorable weather, and after the field work carried out to preserve the sanitary state of the grapes, the vineyard has presented an excellent vegetative and sanitary situation at the end of veraison, with expectations of a great harvest in quantity and quality. With an advance harvest of about 10 days and weather conditions that accompanied the selective harvest at all times, the good expectations that were forged at the beginning of the year were fulfilled, allowing the production of high quality wines.
At Viña Real the harvest began early on September 15 and ended on October 6.
Tasting notes
Garnet color with hints of cherry cherry and high layer of color. Very elegant and intense on the nose with spicy notes, aromas of cocoa, vanilla and fine woods, with a pleasant touch of ripe fruit in the background.
A very ample wine in the mouth with a great fruit load, fleshy and full-bodied, highlighting a noble and structured tannin. It is a great wine, complex, long in the mouth and with an acidity that gives freshness to this wine. It is a wine that will evolve very positively in the bottle, with a long life ahead.
