Contino Viña del Olivo
Contino Viña del Olivo comes from a historic vineyard over 60 years old, with clay-limestone and stony soils near the Ebro River. Fermented in French oak vats and aged 18 months in barrels (70% new), this wine from the 2021 vintage stands out for its early and optimal ripeness, offering full-bodied fresh black fruit and high acidity.
Characteristics of the vineyard
This is a historic vineyard for the Viñedos del Contino property. Its more than 60 years of history have been marked under the watchful eye of the characteristic millenary olive tree. A medium terrace, of excellent quality for the production of wine for aging. Formed by clay-limestone soils with medium stoniness, thanks to the proximity of the Ebro River. Due to the age of its plants, some rows of Grenache are interspersed among the historic Tempranillo.
Winemaking characteristics
Spontaneous fermentation in 100 Hl. French oak vats at controlled temperatures. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in concrete tanks, and once this is completed, the wine is transferred to new barrels (70% of the barrels) and second use barrels (the remaining 30%), 90% of which are French and 10% American, where it remains for 18 months of barrel aging. After this period it is transferred to a wooden vat for 3 months, achieving a total refinement until it is bottled.
Harvest data
The 2021 vintage for Viña del Olivo was marked by a Mediterranean character. An early harvest, with a very interesting ripening, gave rise to berry concentrations and high acidity. This season was characterized by moderate temperatures throughout the cycle.
Viña del Olivo reached optimum ripeness on September 26, producing fresh black fruit, with body and acidity. In addition to being extraordinary in terms of health.
