Finca Vallejo Crianza
Finca Vallejo Ribera del Duero Crianza is made with grapes from selected vineyards on clay-limestone and sandy-loam soils in Villalba de Duero, at 800 m altitude. The 2020 manual harvest allowed for a long and quiet maturation, producing a balanced and complex wine after 12 months in French oak barrels. It stands out for its cherry red color, aromas of fresh red fruit and spicy notes, and a structured, round palate with silky tannins.
Characteristics of the vineyard
It is made with grapes from selected vineyards in clay-limestone and sandy loam soils, located in the town of Villalba de Duero (800 m altitude), Burgos.
Winemaking characteristics
The grapes are harvested by hand and the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out in stainless steel tanks. Once these processes are finished, the wine is taken to French oak barrels where it will spend 12 months acquiring balance and complexity.
Once the ageing process is finished, the wine is bottled to be put on the market.
Harvest data
The 2020 campaign was marked by a higher volume of rainfall and slightly lower temperatures than in other years, resulting in cooler wines. In a key stage such as ripening, both the slightly lower temperatures and the rainfall helped us to have a longer ripening period, resulting in a grape harvest that was calm and staggered, allowing for a good selection of grapes both in the field and in the winery.
The harvest took place at Bela between September 26 and October 19.
Tasting notes
Medium-high intensity, bright and lively, cherry red color with a violet background. The nose shows fresh red fruit (redcurrant, cherry) as well as a good balance of wood and fruit due to its long aging in barrels, providing spicy, toasted and balsamic aromas. In the mouth it is structured and round, with silky tannins resulting in a perfect balance. The finish is ample and long, leaving an intense memory of red fruit and oak. Pairing with a wide range of dishes such as stews, stews, rice, fish in sauce. And all kinds of meats.
Recommended serving temperature 16-18ºC.
