Characteristics of the vineyard

This wine is made from a selection of Tempranillo grapes from our own vineyards and from our best suppliers located in Rioja Alta and Alavesa. Tempranillo is a versatile variety, suitable for making young wines and long-aged wines. This variety, the most common in Rioja, has a good yield, ripens early and the clusters are compact and resistant to adverse weather conditions. The vineyard has an average age of 20 years, the soils are clay-limestone and the climate is continental with Atlantic influence, which favors the production of tasty and balanced fruit.

Winemaking characteristics

The grapes are harvested by hand from selected vineyards. Before harvesting, we carry out the necessary ripening controls to confirm that the fruit meets the ideal requirements for the production of this wine. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation is carried out in small capacity stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. After this process, the wine is racked into single-use casks where it remains for a few months before being filtered and bottled.

Harvest data

The harvest begins on September 16 and ends on October 21. The weather in Rioja during the 2021 growing season has been irregular. The summer began very dry but the rains in September were decisive for a very positive evolution. In the high and aerated areas, as well as in the vineyards of low and medium production, the grapes improved notably with the help of these rains. Perfect weather during the month of October, with sunny, bright days followed by very cold nights, led to slow ripening.

Healthy, well-balanced grapes with generally good acidity have allowed us to produce great wines with good cellaring potential.

Tasting notes

Garnet color with purple background. On the nose, forest fruits and licorice stand out, varietal aromas well assembled with the aromas from its time in oak barrels. Smooth on the palate, with a gentle tannin that provides balance and roundness, and a long, fruity finish. Ideal companion for the Mediterranean diet. Recommended serving temperature 16-18ºC.
