Cune Crianza

Bottle 75cl - 2020

Cune Crianza has been made annually since its launch, with grapes sourced from vineyards in Rioja Alta, some of our own and others from local suppliers with whom CVNE has worked for generations. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, followed by aging in American oak barrels for one year, which gives it its distinctive aromatic balance and finesse.

Characteristics of the vineyard

The vineyards are located in the Rioja Alta, close to CVNE, which makes it easier for the grapes to arrive intact at the winery to be processed in the best conditions. Approximately half are our own vineyards located in Haro and nearby villages and the rest of the grapes are purchased from local growers. For generations we have relied on these suppliers for the production of Cune crianza and every year we monitor and advise them from the technical team of CVNE. The grapes come from different sites with a diversity of soils, orientations, conduction systems and ages. Cune crianza is an assemblage wine that year after year reflects its own style. .

Winemaking characteristics

Alcoholic fermentation takes place in 20,000 kg stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature between 25 and 27ºC, in order to preserve the fruit that characterizes this wine. Daily pumping over and two delestages are carried out during maceration. After vatting for about 12 days, we separate the press and malolactic fermentation takes place in tank. Subsequently, the wine is aged in used American oak barrels (several wines) for a year, a period in which it acquires the aromatic balance that characterizes it, as well as its finesse and overall expression.

Harvest data

The 2020 campaign has been marked by rainfall, sometimes with hail, and by the mild temperatures that have accompanied us throughout the vine cycle. This has contributed to an advance of about 15 days in the harvest date with respect to the previous year. Harvesting was selective depending on the results of the ripening controls, as the ripening was uneven. The grapes entered the winery in very good health. The great quality of the grapes makes us predict the production of great wines suitable for aging. The red grape harvest begins on September 9 in the Torremontalbo area and ends on October 9 in our Cihuri estates.

Tasting notes

Garnet color with bluish hints. Fresh aromas of red fruits, highlighting the licorice in perfect harmony with the sweet aromas of vanilla, toffee and light toasted notes from the American barrel where it is aged. In the mouth it has a perfect passage, it is round and balanced with a fresh touch at the end that gives it a length providing a retronasal with soft notes of pastry that invites us to continue drinking. The appropriate pairing is with the Mediterranean diet. Serving temperature 16-18ºC.
