Cune Organic New Label
Cune Ecological is a red wine made with Tempranillo, Grenache and Graciano grapes from organic vineyards in Haro and San Vicente. Hand harvesting and natural fermentation preserve the fruity aromas and liveliness of the wine. It has a purplish color, black fruit aromas and a smooth, round flavor, ideal for pairing with Mediterranean food and cheeses.
Vineyard Characteristics
Vineyards belonging to our regular suppliers in the Haro area, as well as San Vicente, who in recent years have committed to organic cultivation of their vineyards. The soils are primarily clay-limestone; the fertilizers used are organic and plant-based. The use of herbicides, synthetic pesticides, and any farming practices that could harm or alter the natural balance of the soil and the environment has been avoided.
Winemaking Characteristics
The Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Graciano grapes are hand-harvested, each picked at its optimal ripeness.
Each variety is vinified separately, with minimal crushing, and placed in small concrete tanks. Upon arrival in the tank, the grapes are kept at 12°C for 12 hours to prevent oxidation of the must and preserve the vibrancy of its color.
Alcoholic fermentation occurs naturally with native yeasts, and we limit the use of additives such as sulfur dioxide. Fermentation is maintained at a temperature of 24°C to preserve the aromas and aromatic expression of each variety. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged for 6 months in 300-liter barrels before stabilization and bottling.
Red wine produced using organic viticulture and certified by the CPAER (ES-ECO-035-RI) under no. RI-1204-E-2020-1.
Vintage Information
The 2023 growing season was challenging throughout the entire cycle from a climatic standpoint, culminating in a very intense harvest in terms of work both in the vineyard and in the winery.
After a fairly dry winter, budbreak occurred somewhat earlier than usual. Rainfall was also scarce in the spring, although storms at the start of summer and mild temperatures in June and July alleviated the situation somewhat, giving the vines a brief respite.
Several heat waves in August, with daytime temperatures exceeding 40°C and nighttime temperatures higher than usual for that time of year, set off alarm bells once again. The situation did not improve with the heavy rainfall that occurred during the first half of September, which led us to fear for the health of the grapes.
Ripeness sampling and grape tastings were especially crucial for making decisions and starting the harvest at just the right time in order to preserve the primary aromas, acidity, and freshness in the production of this organic wine.
The organic grape harvest began on October 5 and ended on October 9, 2023.
