Characteristics of the vineyard
The grapes destined for Bela Gran Vino de Rueda come from exclusive vineyards that are more than 30 years old and have a production of less than 6,500 kg/ha, in line with the requirements of this quality category.
Winemaking characteristics
The grapes are harvested by hand, with a first selection in the vineyard itself. The grapes are collected in boxes and refrigerated in cold storage to preserve their qualities.
Subsequently, a second selection is made on the table before being transferred to a state-of-the-art small-volume press.
The must is transferred to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. Once this stage is completed, the wine is transferred to 400-liter French oak barrels, where it is aged on the lees for five months.
Harvest data
The 2023 harvest began on August 15 and ended on October 5, with a more limited production than usual.
Harvesting took place at night to preserve the aromatic properties of the grapes and avoid oxidation.
Weather conditions - with high temperatures in August and heavy rains in early September - favored adequate ripening. The grapes arrived in excellent health and with an optimal balance between alcohol content and acidity.
According to the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Rueda, the 2023 vintage presents very good quality prospects.
Tasting notes
To the eye, it has an elegant pale yellow tone, accompanied by delicate greenish reflections that anticipate its freshness. The nose is intense, refined and highly complex. Herbal and mineral notes intertwine with the characteristic aromas of the Verdejo variety: ripe stone fruit, fresh fennel and a subtle citrus background. Aging on the lees in French oak adds depth with delicate nuances of sweet spices, fine bakery and dried fruits. The palate is unctuous and enveloping, with a silky texture and perfectly integrated acidity. Its balance between volume and freshness stands out, culminating in a long, slightly bitter finish that is a varietal hallmark of authenticity. The retronasal finish confirms its complexity with echoes of white fruit, fennel and soft toasted hints. A verdejo with a gastronomic soul, sophisticated and versatile. Pairs well with rice dishes, white fish, seafood, white meats, pâtés and is ideal as an aperitif.
