Contino Graciano
Contino Graciano comes from a vineyard planted in 1979 with clay-limestone soil in the Finca de San Rafael, offering full ripeness and characteristic acidity. Fermentation takes place in French oak vats and aging in 100% French oak barrels for 2 years, ensuring the preservation of the characteristics of the variety.
Characteristics of the vineyard
Harvested by hand in our vineyards around the San Rafael estate. Grapes from San Gregorio, a Graciano vineyard (3.7 ha) planted in 1979, with characteristic clay-limestone soil. This gives this variety full maturity while preserving its characteristic acidity.
Winemaking characteristics
Manual selection in the field and on the selection table in the winery, thus guaranteeing maximum quality. The main objective in this vinification process is to preserve the characteristics of the variety. Alcoholic fermentation in 100 Hl French oak vats at a moderate temperature to ensure good color extraction. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in pure concrete for one month before being transferred to 100% French oak barrels for second use. It remains there for 2 years until it is bottled.
Harvest data
The 2019 vintage was marked by low rainfall, slightly below average. At the end of May, there was rainfall that hindered fruit set in some varieties that were in full bloom. This, combined with plant water stress, resulted in loose clusters and small berries.
Temperatures during the growing season reflected a mild winter but a summer characterized by heat waves.
Tempranillo was harvested on September 13 and Graciano and Mazuelo were harvested 5 days later.
This year was characterized by very favorable weather conditions during the harvest period. It is expected to be a great vintage in terms of quality.
