Maruxa Mencia

Bottle 75cl - 2022

Maruxa Mencía is a wine from small vineyards in Éntoma with diverse soils, grown at altitudes of 350 to 800 meters. Made with manual harvest, cold maceration and fermentation in tanks without barrels, it seeks to express primary aromas and a fruit more blue than black. It has a cherry red color, intense nose of fresh red fruit and mineral notes, with a broad, fresh and persistent mouthfeel.

Characteristics of the vineyard

The fruit comes from suppliers who cultivate small plots differentiated by soils and zones, from the village of Éntoma.

The earliest are those in the Val do Galir as they are further south (350 mts) and the slate favors early ripening due to the reflex effect, they are also the most mineral and with the best Ph.

The rest of the plots are located on the northern slopes of the Sil river, ranging from 600 to 800 meters above sea level, they are the latest and coolest, with a more floral profile and lower yields, also the richest in variety maturity.

Although we depend on suppliers to opt for very old vineyards, we manage them ourselves technically to be able to mark the cutting date thinking about the style of wine and avoiding over-ripening, as the Sil Valley is quite warm.

We look for fruit that is more blue than black.

Winemaking characteristics

Manual harvesting in 15 kg boxes. Maceration of the grapes in boxes in a refrigerated cooler and in tank 48 hours prior to alcoholic fermentation. Destemming and no crushing of the grapes to favor the primary aromas.

Fermentation in small stainless steel tanks and open plastic tubs

Without passing through the cask, pure Mencia.

Harvest data

The 2022 harvest started the third week of September, marked by a dry and warm spring and summer, with slightly high temperatures during the day and cool at night, with earlier budding than in the 2021. Moderate alcoholic ripening, with good Ph and excellent fruit health, we believe this is the year of purity.

Low yields as a result of the drought.
