Los Carismáticos
Los Carismáticos is a Merenzao wine over 50 years old, grown on the Los Carismáticos estate in Val do Bibei. It is made with manual harvest and spontaneous fermentation in foudre, maintaining a sustainable viticulture. This wine, with a delicate profile and low extraction, stands out for its elegance and reminiscences of traditional wines of the region.
Characteristics of the vineyard
The Merenzao grapes come from our 0.3 ha Los Carismáticos estate, located on the southern slope of Val do Bibei, in the northern part of Valdeorras, in the village of As Ermitas. It is an amphitheater-shaped estate with sandy soil formed by decomposed granite, poor and shallow and all kinds of climatic exposures.
Its terraces were built in stone by hand in the 19th century. The vineyard is more than 50 years old. Due to the orography of the terrain, the only way to work the soil is manually or with animals.
Sustainable viticulture is carried out.
Winemaking characteristics
Manual harvest in 15 kg boxes, grape selection and spontaneous fermentation in 25 hl foudre, whole cluster and eliminating the stems progressively. Fermentation with autochthonous yeast.
Harvest data
The 2021 harvest was carried out in the first fortnight of September and was marked by a cool summer with average temperatures during the day and cool at night, causing a lower alcoholic and more homogeneous phenolic ripening, being a healthy, Atlantic and very elegant harvest.
Slightly lower yields than the 2020.
Tasting notes
Los Carismáticos recovers a wine and a reviled variety, the merenzao, a wine that the elders tell you about as the tastiest; and the one they used to select to make at home for their own consumption. More delicate than the rest of the region's reds, with little extraction and intervention. Profile not at all exuberant. Also known as black Godello, Trousseau and Bastardo.
