LA VAL Sousón
Monovarietal of Sousón, a variety historically cultivated in Condado do Tea under the name of Retinto. A variety with a long cycle, small cluster and medium to low productivity, it is called to be one of the great grapes of Galicia. It produces very aromatic wines of deep color and great freshness.
It has a high, almost dark robe with violet tones. It has a high aromatic intensity, dominated by wild red fruits such as blackberry, floral notes, toasted, Chinese ink, Atlantic herbs, laurel and an elegant minerality. The palate is full of freshness and fruitiness, with very Atlantic mineral and saline sensations.
Vineyard Characteristics
Located in the town of Crecente (in the heart of the Rías Baixas), where the Miño River winds through deep valleys. The vineyard has a clear south-facing orientation and typically granitic soil.
Winemaking Characteristics
Pre-fermentation maceration at 10 °C for two days. Spontaneous fermentation with yeasts from the vineyard itself.
The grapes ferment in a small 2,000-liter stainless steel tank with some of the stems. The winemaking process involves minimal intervention, with daily manual punching down.
After devatting, the wine is transferred to 300-liter French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and subsequent aging for 6 months.
Vintage Information
Harvest began on September 22. It was a warm year that facilitated perfect phenolic ripeness, as well as optimal acidity and sugar levels in the red grapes.
