Contino White
Contino Blanco comes from vineyards between 35 and 40 years old, with white Grenache from the San Gregorio estate and Viura from various areas of Contino. The winemaking process includes skin maceration in stainless steel followed by alcoholic fermentation, with 70% of the wine aged in barrels and 30% in concrete.
Characteristics of the vineyard
The Garnacha Blanca comes from the San Gregorio estate, planted in 1980 on calcareous clay soils. The viura comes from different areas of Contino, from the alluvial and old Lentisco estate, from the stony San Gregorio La Tabla and from the Santa María estate. All are between 35 and 40 years old.
Winemaking characteristics
The proximity of the vineyard to the winery allows the bunches to arrive in perfect condition. The whole bunches are destemmed and vatted in a stainless steel tank. The versatility of the steel facilitates a pellicular maceration for a few hours. After this time, the grapes are bled and pressed to give way to alcoholic fermentation, which lasts 20 days. When it is finished, 30% is transferred to concrete and the remaining 70% to new and semi-new barrels of different cooperages, with volumes of 500 liters.
Harvest data
Normal rainfall for the season was recorded in March and April. Bud break occurs in mid-April.
The end of flowering occurs around June 7, when a heat wave begins that will last until the 20th, with temperatures of up to 42 ºC.
The first veraison grapes of our white varieties are seen around July 15, when San Gregorio and La Tabla have a significant vigor in spite of the scarce rainfall after flowering.
Harvest for Viura began on September 10 and for Garnacha Blanca on September 14. The grapes are at optimum ripeness.
Tasting notes
On the nose it is an electric wine, where the balsamic and fresh notes of the estate blend with the 500-liter wood wrapper, which is not at all predominant.
On the palate we find an enveloping wine, with freshness, mineral and at the same time with weight to be able to accompany any type of meat or fish.
