Monopole Classic Reserve
Monopole Clásico Reserva is made with grapes from our own vineyard in Villalba de Rioja, in limestone soils at an altitude of over 600 meters above sea level. The manual harvest and biological aging in used barrels for 8 months provide aromas of chamomile and dried fruits, with fresh acidity and a long aftertaste. The 2020 vintage was atypical with slow ripening and mild temperatures, resulting in very aromatic wines.
Characteristics of the vineyard
The grapes for this wine come from our own vineyard in Villalba de Rioja, 5+ hectares planted 15 years ago with eastern exposure, on limestone soils. The vines are trellised for protection due to the prevailing wind on the estate. Altitude above 600 meters.
Winemaking characteristics
The grapes are hand harvested in 20 kg boxes. The grapes are gently pressed and, as in the 1960s, the must is taken to a concrete tank for static racking.
The alcoholic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks and once this process is finished the wine will go together with the fine lees to complete its aging in used barrels and casks that have previously contained several wines, being of 300, 400 and 500 l. capacity.
The wine rests in these used barrels and casks of different capacities for about 8 months, where biological aging has been carried out thanks to the development of the veil of flor.
This aging contributes to the peculiar organoleptic characteristics of Monopole Clásico, providing aromas of chamomile and dried fruits, increasing the sensation of freshness due to its acidity and providing a long and persistent aftertaste.
With all this, we achieve a wine that preserves both the qualities of the varieties and the peculiarities of a sui generis white.
Harvest data
The white grape harvest for the production of this wine is carried out in the first days of October. It has been an atypical year for white grapes, with a slower ripening than usual, which has given rise to very aromatic wines.
The campaign has been marked by rainfall, sometimes with hail, and by the mild temperatures that have accompanied us throughout the vine cycle. This has contributed to an advance of about 15 days in the harvest date with respect to the previous year.
Harvesting was selective depending on the results of the ripening controls, as the ripening was uneven. The grapes entered the winery in very good health.
