Viña Real Barrel Fermented
Viña Real Fermentado en Barrica is a white wine from Rioja Alavesa, made with Viura grapes from 20-year-old vineyards. Fermentation takes place in Hungarian oak barrels and the wine remains on the lees with batonnage for greater complexity. It has a pale yellow color with aromas of fruit and sweet spices, and a balanced and smooth taste, ideal for pairing with cheeses, white meats and fish.
Characteristics of the vineyard
20 year old vineyards located in different areas of Rioja Alavesa, mainly Elciego and Laguardia, with fresh, calcareous clay soils, goblet and trellis cultivated, Viura grape variety.
Winemaking characteristics
Manual selection in the vineyard of the grapes at their optimum ripeness.
In the winery, the grapes are kept at 10ºC macerating with their skins for 12 hours in order to obtain a greater aromatic extraction in the final wine. After this time, a small pneumatic press separates different fractions and qualities of must. The drained must is used to make this wine, which ferments in Hungarian oak barrels of different capacities and years of use (between 1 and 3 years).
Once the alcoholic fermentation is finished, the wine remains in the barrel with the fine lees that we put in suspension by batonnage. We taste the wine weekly to control its evolution and determine the right moment to finish the aging on lees. The wine is then racked, clarified and filtered before bottling.
Harvest data
The weather in Rioja during the 2021 growing season was irregular. The summer began very dry but the rains in September were decisive for a very positive evolution. In the high and aerated areas, as well as in the vineyards of low and medium production, the grapes improved notably with the help of these rains. Perfect weather during the month of October, with sunny, bright days followed by very cold nights, led to slow ripening.
Healthy, well-balanced grapes with generally good acidity allowed us to produce great wines with good cellaring potential.
Harvesting of the white grapes began on September 21 and ended on October 19.
Tasting notes
Pale yellow color with greenish reminiscences.
Attractive aroma in which we find the primary aromas of apple, banana, pineapple and those from the stay in barrel, such as certain sweet spices that give it a soft balance that we notice particularly in the mouth where its passage is balanced and smooth with a kind but marked tannin, and a final acidity that makes the aftertaste is long balsamic and fruity.
The ideal pairing for cheeses, white meats and fish both in sauce and grilled.
Serving temperature 8-10ºC.
