LA VAL Gran Añada

75cl bottle - 2019

La Val Gran Añada comes from its own vineyards along the Miño river, planted on different soils, from the high altitude granite of Taboexa (in Condado do Tea) to terraced plantations in the area of Arantei (Salvaterra do Miño) or vineyards near the Atlantic in Vilachán (O Rosal). This mosaic of territories gives this white wine a great complexity, with aromas of citrus, ripe white fruits, flowers and balsamic, which in the mouth displays structure and acidity accompanying fruity, citrus and tasty notes, forming a set with a strong identity of the most authentic Rias Baixas

Characteristics of the vineyard

Selection of the best plots from our estates. Vineyards that extend along the Miño river, from the highest and most granitic areas of Condado do Tea (Taboexa) through the boulder terraces of Salvaterra (Arantei and Porto) and ending near its end at the Atlantic Ocean, in O Rosal (Vilachán). They are vineyards of different ages, soils and climates that give complexity and character to the wine.
Winemaking characteristics
Manual harvest in 20 kg boxes. Stabilization of the bunches in cold storage at 10ºC. Gentle pressing to extract the best must and buds. Fermentation with sowing at the foot of the vat of the yeasts that the grapes bring in their skins from the vineyard. After devatting, the wine is aged partly in 500 and 600 liter French oak barrels and partly in tanks with its finest lees. Rigorous monitoring of the evolution of the wine to see if the VINTAGE has GRAND characteristics.

Harvest data

Early budding of the vines, at the beginning of March, as a result of a warm and dry winter. The spring is warm and humid, providing the necessary water for the entire plant cycle. Severe storms with hail that did not affect us, as well as an explosive cyclogenesis (June 6) with winds of over 90 km/h that caused some vine shoot breakage, were the most significant climatic incidents. A mild summer allowed a correct and slow ripening, with moderate alcoholic content and perfect acidity, bringing the harvest to normal dates for the appellation. The harvest began at La Val on September 12.

Tasting notes

Very bright straw yellow color with expressive greenish glints. High aromatic intensity on the nose, both complex and pleasant, where the primary notes of the variety, ripe white fruit, floral, balsamic notes (laurel), citrus, merge with more complex notes of its evolution with the lees such as vanilla, pastry and a mineral background that imprints personality. A wine with great structure and lively acidity in the mouth, perfumes the palate with fruit, laurel and citrus, with a tastiness and persistence typical of the best albariños from the Rías Baixas
