Selección de Fincas Graciano
Selección de Fincas Graciano is a Rioja Alta wine made with Graciano grapes from south-facing vineyards, to compensate for its late ripening. It offers intense aromas of black pepper, black fruit and balsamic, with a smooth taste, silky tannins and a fresh acidity characteristic of the variety. Ideal for pairing with oily fish, suckling pig or lamb.
Characteristics of the vineyard
The elaboration of our Selección de Fincas Graciano is carried out with vineyards of this variety belonging to our best suppliers. The vineyard faces south as Graciano is a late ripening variety and this orientation compensates for the continental climate and Atlantic influence predominant in the Rioja Alta sub-area. The clusters are of medium size and the berries are round, deep black, with fine skins and a pleasant bittersweet must. It is not easy to grow as it only ripens well in soils and plantations with good exposure and is not a very productive variety. On the other hand, this variety produces very aromatic, floral wines, with a very lively color, fresh and with good acidity.
Winemaking characteristics
After carrying out various ripening controls in the field of the selected vineyards and once the required parameters have been reached, the grapes are harvested by hand so that the grapes enter the winery as intact as possible. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks. At the end we carry out a racking so that the wine spends a short period of time in used barrels where it acquires its final balance before filtering and bottling.
Harvest information
The harvest begins on September 16 and ends on October 21.
The weather in Rioja during the 2021 growing season has been irregular. The summer began very dry but the rains in September were decisive for a very positive evolution. In the high and aerated areas, as well as in the vineyards of low and medium production, the grapes improved notably with the help of these rains. Perfect weather during the month of October, with sunny, bright days followed by very cold nights, led to slow ripening.
Healthy, well-balanced grapes with generally good acidity have allowed us to produce great wines with good cellaring potential.
