Viña Real Crianza
Viña Real Crianza is a wine from Rioja Alavesa, made with grapes from our own vineyards and from local suppliers. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and aging in French and American oak barrels for 13-14 months. It has a garnet color with aromas of red fruits and spices, and a balanced flavor, ideal for pairing with stews, rice dishes and meats.
Characteristics of the vineyard
Viña Real is made with grapes from Rioja Alavesa, made up of small villages where the people are almost exclusively dedicated to the cultivation of the vine, a deeply rooted culture that has been passed down through generations.
The grapes that make up Viña Real crianza come from our own vineyards (Laguardia) and from the vineyards of suppliers in the Alavesa area who have been supplying us with their harvests for years.
They are small plots with a diversity of soils and orientations, vineyards in low mountains with altitudes of 650 m and hillside plots at 400 m, goblet pruning for the oldest vines and in younger vineyards we also find trellising with cordon royat pruning. The grapes are harvested by hand.
Winemaking characteristics
The de-stemmed grapes are deposited in stainless steel tanks where they undergo alcoholic fermentation for 10-11 days with temperature control between 26ºC-28ºC. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is transferred to used French and American oak barrels where it remains for 13-14 months.
The wine is racked during its stay in barrels every 5-6 months to favor its maturation and correct organoleptic evolution.
Harvest data
The harvest began on 21 September with whites and reds from the lower areas of Rioja Alavesa (Laserna, Oyón) and ended on 16 October with the higher areas (El villar de Álava - Labastida), a week later than in 2020.
The weather in Rioja during the 2021 growing season has been irregular. The summer began very dry but the rains in September were decisive for a very positive evolution. In the high and aerated areas, as well as in the vineyards of low and medium production, the grapes have been improving notably with the help of these rains. Perfect weather during the month of October, with sunny, bright days followed by very cold nights, led to slow ripening.
Healthy grapes, very balanced and generally with good acidity have allowed us to produce this crianza.
Tasting notes
Attractive garnet color with purple notes in the meniscus. High aromatic intensity with forest fruits such as blackberries and wild blueberries, intermingled with black licorice and aromas of vanilla and nutmeg from the barrel aging.
The palate entry is smooth and its passage is marked by a balance between ripe tannin and the final freshness typical of this wine. Long and persistent finish with hints of red fruits and sweet spices.
Serving temperature between 15ºC and 18ºC.
