Cune Reserve
The grapes for Cune Reserva come from our own vineyards in Rioja Alta. After fermentation and an 18-month maceration, the wine is aged for 24 months in French and American oak barrels. Finally, it spends at least 12 months in bottle before being released to the market.
Characteristics of the vineyard
The grapes used to make Cune Reserva come from our own vineyards known as Caballeros, Santo Tomás and Sarnamoros, all located in Rioja Alta in the towns of Rodezno, Villalba and Haro. The soils are mainly calcareous clay, located at an altitude of between 500 and 600 meters and aged between 20-25 years. All the grapes for Cune Reserva are harvested by hand.
Winemaking characteristics
Alcoholic fermentation takes place at controlled temperature in 20,000 kg stainless steel tanks where we alternate different types of pumping over, traditional pumping over, delestage and pigeage. After fermentation, a hot maceration is carried out with a total vatting period of 18 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in French and American oak barrels for a period of 18 months. The clarified and filtered wine is bottled and finally goes to our cellars where it ages for a minimum of 12 months under ideal temperature and humidity conditions until it is released to the market.
Harvest data
The 2020 campaign has been marked by rainfall, sometimes with hail, and by the mild temperatures that have accompanied us throughout the vine cycle. This has contributed to an advance of about 15 days in the harvest date with respect to the previous year. Harvesting was selective depending on the results of the ripening controls, as the ripening was uneven. The grapes entered the winery in very good health. The great quality of the grapes makes us predict the production of great wines suitable for aging. The red grape harvest begins on September 9 in the Torremontalbo area and ends on October 9 in our Cihuri estates.
Tasting notes
Garnet color.
Fresh aromas of red fruits, highlighting the licorice in perfect harmony with the sweet aromas of vanilla, toffee, spices and light toasted notes from the barrel aging. In the mouth it has a perfect passage, it is round and balanced with a fresh touch at the end that gives it a length providing a retronasal with soft notes of pastry that invites us to continue drinking.
Recommended pairing from fish to meats, cheeses and stews.
