Characteristics of the vineyard

The grapes for the production of Cune Reserva come from our own vineyards known as Caballeros, Santo Tomás and Sarnamoros, all located in Rioja Alta in the towns of Rodezno, Villalba and Haro. The soils are mainly calcareous clay, located at an altitude of between 500 and 600 meters and aged between 20-25 years. All of the grapes for Cune Reserva are harvested by hand.

Winemaking characteristics

Alcoholic fermentation takes place at controlled temperature in 20,000 kg stainless steel tanks where we alternate different types of pumping over, traditional pumping over, delestage and pigeage. After fermentation, a hot maceration is carried out with a total vatting period of 18 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in French and American oak barrels for a period of 18 months. The clarified and filtered wine is bottled and finally passed on to our cellars where it ages for a minimum of 12 months under ideal temperature and humidity conditions until it is released onto the market.

Harvest information

The harvest starts at CVNE on September 12 and ends on October 15. The vegetative state of the vineyard has been very good in terms of health in both Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. Due to temperature fluctuations and light rainfall during the months of May and June, the quantity of grapes was reduced, resulting in small, loose and less compact bunches, but increasing the quality considerably. The grapes were late compared to last year, but the low yields led to an earlier ripening, thus matching the harvest dates. The grapes were harvested calmly and staggered, allowing for a good selection of grapes both in the field and in the winery.

Tasting notes

Garnet color with some cherry red tones. Aromas of berries, blackberries, cherries, strawberries.... and licorice that are complemented by those from its barrel aging such as spices, vanilla and aniseed notes. The palate is smooth on the palate due to a gentle tannin that gives it balance and roundness. The final note of acidity gives us a long wine with a fruity aftertaste. Recommended pairing from fish to meats, cheeses and stews. Serving temperature 18ºC.
