Asúa Reserva

75cl bottle - 2020

Asúa Reserva is a wine from Rioja Alta, made with grapes from vineyards in clay-limestone and ferrous soils at an altitude of over 500 meters, which provide elegance and typicity. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete and wooden vats, it is aged in French oak before settling in the bottle. Dark garnet in color, it offers aromatic complexity with notes of forest fruits, licorice, coffee and cocoa, and a structured and persistent flavor.

Characteristics of the vineyard

Asúa Reserva is made exclusively with grapes from Haro, capital of Rioja Alta where the soils are calcareous clay and ferrous, continental climate with marked Atlantic influence, vineyards located above 500 m altitude.

The wines from these soils have been known for more than a century as "fine wines" due to the typicity and elegance that this soil provides to the raw material, ideal for the production of wines for ageing.

Winemaking characteristics

Manual harvest and alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks and small capacity wooden vats. We alternate different types of pumping-over during fermentation, a first pumping-over with oxygen for yeast multiplication and then delestage and punching down until the desired color, tannins and structure are obtained. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in concrete and is then transferred to French oak barrels where it remains throughout its aging.

Once bottled, it goes to the "calados", where at the right temperature and humidity, it rests for the necessary time until its release to the market.

Harvest data

The 2020 campaign was marked by rainfall, sometimes with hail, and by the mild temperatures that accompanied us throughout the vine's vegetative cycle, which lasted 175 days. This contributed to an advance of about 15 days in the harvest date compared to the previous year.

Harvesting was selective depending on the results of the ripening controls, as the grapes ripened unevenly. The grapes entered the winery in very good health.

The great quality of the grapes makes us predict the production of great wines suitable for aging.

Harvest in the Haro area begins on September 23 and ends on October 9.

Tasting notes

Nice garnet color with good depth.

High aromatic intensity where we see a good assembly between varietal aromas and those from aging. We discover the following nuances, fruits of the forest, licorice, roasted coffee, cigar leaf, cocoa..

It is a wine with a smooth entry on the palate and a gentle tannin. The touch of acidity leads us to a long and complex aftertaste typical of this type of high quality wines.

Perfect companion for all kinds of meats, stews and fish in sauce.
