Asúa Reserva
Asúa Reserva is a wine from Rioja Alta, made with grapes from vineyards in clay-limestone and ferrous soils at an altitude of over 500 meters, which provide elegance and typicity. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete and wooden vats, it is aged in French oak before settling in the bottle. Dark garnet in color, it offers aromatic complexity with notes of forest fruits, licorice, coffee and cocoa, and a structured and persistent flavor.
Characteristics of the vineyard
Asúa Reserva is made exclusively with grapes from Haro, capital of Rioja Alta, where the soils are calcareous clay and ferrous, continental climate with a marked Atlantic influence, vineyards located above 500 m altitude.
The wines from these soils have been known for more than a century as "fine wines" due to the typicity and elegance that this soil provides to the raw material, ideal for the production of wines for ageing.
Winemaking characteristics
Manual harvest and alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks and small capacity wooden vats. We alternate different types of pumping-over during fermentation, a first pumping-over with oxygen for yeast multiplication and then delestage and punching down to obtain the desired color, tannins and structure. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in concrete and is then transferred to French oak barrels where it remains throughout its aging.
Once bottled, it goes to the "calados", where at the right temperature and humidity, it rests for the necessary time until its release to the market.
Harvest information
The harvest begins at CVNE on September 12 and ends on October 15. The vegetative state of the vineyard has been very good in terms of health throughout the Rioja. Due to temperature fluctuations and light rainfall during the months of May and June, the quantity of grapes was reduced, resulting in small, loose bunches, less compact, which increased the quality considerably.
The grapes were late compared to last year, but the low yields led to an earlier ripening, which evened out the harvest dates.
The grapes were harvested calmly and staggered, allowing for a good selection of grapes both in the field and in the winery.
Tasting notes
Intense dark garnet color, with a high layer of color. Interesting aromatic complexity where varietal aromas such as berries and licorice intertwine with those from barrel aging, roasted coffee, cigar leaf, cocoa.
It is a structured wine in its entrance in mouth and smooth in its passage through the palate with a long persistence leaving us a complex retronasal, which shows us the personality of a great wine.
Perfect companion for all kinds of meats, stews and fish in sauce.
