Characteristics of the vineyard

The grapes come from Torremontalbo's own vineyards of about 70 hectares where we make a manual selection. The vines have an average age of 45 years, goblet trained and oriented to the South and East, the soils are clayey, and in some occasions with vegetation cover. A lot of boulders.

Annual rainfall, depending on the area, is around 500 l/m2 and the climate, with an Atlantic influence, is continental.

Winemaking characteristics

The grapes for the production of Cune Gran Reserva 2018 are harvested by hand in 300 kg pallets that remain in a refrigerated truck for 24 hours in order to prevent oxidation, stabilize the color and preserve the varietal aromas.

During vatting, a 24-hour cold maceration is carried out before alcoholic fermentation, in small stainless steel and concrete tanks, using our own yeasts and alternating different types of pumping-over.

After fermentation, the wine continues to macerate for a few days with the skins, during which time we carry out tastings to determine the ideal moment for devatting.

Malolactic fermentation takes place in concrete tanks and after aging for 24 months in American and French oak barrels, the wine is clarified and bottled, remaining at least 3 years in our cellars in the best humidity and temperature conditions.

Harvest data

The harvest at CVNE begins on September 19 and ends on October 26 with very good expectations.

The 2018 harvest takes us back to La Rioja years ago with a winter of heavy frosts, snow and abundant rainfall. The spring was also cold and rainy and then came the summer, warm but without excessive temperatures, which allowed good ripening.

The harvest had a long vegetative cycle of 180 days. These conditions produce great red wines.
