Contino Rosé
Contino Rosé Reserva is a high-end rosé from Rioja Alavesa that breaks with convention due to its complexity and elegance. It combines aromas of ripe red fruit, candied orange peel and dried flowers, with subtle notes of vanilla and spices from its careful aging. The palate is silky, structured and fresh, with perfectly integrated acidity and a long, harmonious finish. A gastronomic and cellaring rosé, ideal for those who are looking for something really special.
Characteristics of the vineyard
The grapes used to make Contino Rosado Reserva come from different plots of the estate's vineyard, selected for their ability to express the strength and complexity of the estate. The Graciano variety is grown in the San Gregorio plot, and stands out for its good structure and natural acidity.
The La Encina plot provides Garnacha from old vines, which contributes freshness, fruit expression and liveliness.
The blend is completed by the mazuelo from the Don Vicente estate, which offers freshness and aging capacity, essential qualities in the identity of this rosé for ageing.
Winemaking characteristics
The Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo varieties are harvested by hand in 500 kg pallets and vinified separately. Each variety is placed in wooden vats, where alcoholic fermentation takes place after a maceration adjusted to the characteristics of each grape: 12 hours for Graciano, 16 hours for Garnacha and 12 hours for Mazuelo.
Once the free-run juice is obtained by bleeding, it is transferred to stainless steel micro-deposits, where it ferments at a controlled temperature of between 16 and 18 °C for 10 days, in order to preserve all its aromatic and expressive potential.
Once fermentation is complete, the different lots are blended to create a unique rosé wine. The wine is then transferred to 500-liter oak barrels and concrete tanks, where it is aged, harmoniously combining complexity and freshness.
Harvest data
During the months of March and April there was rainfall within the usual average for the season. Budding took place in mid-April, giving way to a flowering that concluded around June 7. On the same day, a heat wave began that lasted until the 20th, with temperatures up to 42 °C (42 ºC).
Despite the low rainfall after flowering, the vineyard showed remarkable vigor. Veraison of the Grenache variety was observed around July 15.
Harvest began on September 10 with the Grenache and continued on September 14 with the Graciano and Mazuelo, all of which were harvested at optimum ripeness.
Tasting notes
An attractive salmon pink color with coppery hues, this rosé shows a refined and suggestive nose, where aromas of ripe red fruit, candied orange peel and dried flowers intertwine. The delicate aging contributes subtle notes of vanilla, sweet spices and soft smoky notes that enrich the whole. The palate displays a silky and enveloping texture, with a firm structure, well-integrated acidity and a persistent and harmonious finish. A gastronomic and cellaring rosé that reveals the elegance and depth that can be achieved in this category in Rioja, still unusual but increasingly recognized.
